Cory Winslow

Cory Winslow is a HEMA Alliance Certified Instructor and the Vice Director of the HEMAA Curriculum Council. He has been seriously researching and training in Historical European Martial Arts since 2003. In 2006 he founded the first MEMAG training school in Salisbury Maryland with his assistant instructor Joshua Reptsik and continued to teach regular classes at the Peninsula Fight School of MEMAG until early 2014, when he and his wife Betsy established the Blue Ridge Sword School in Luray, VA where they currently instruct regular classes.

In addition to teaching regular MEMAG classes, Cory has held his own seminars and taught or assisted teaching at several local, regional and national HEMA events, such as: Bonfire of the fencer, Chivalric Weekend, The HEMA Alliance Mid-Atlantic HEMA Gathering, Shortpoint, Longpoint, Octoberfecht and Fechtschule New York. He has also participated in numerous demonstrations and lessons at the Chesapeake Celtic Festival, The Salisbury Dogwood Festival, The Salisbury School, Salisbury University, Wor-Wic Community College and the Maryland Irish Festival.

Along with teaching, Cory has volunteered as staff at several different events and has also competed in the open longsword tournaments at Longpoint and Octoberfecht. In 2013 he developed the Paired Technique Competition format that would later be used at several HEMA events.

Cory is in charge of the creation and revision of the Longsword Syllabus, and also the student curriculum used in all MEMAG schools.

 

Betsy Winslow

Betsy Winslow is a HEMA Alliance Certified Instructor and HEMAA Instructor Certification Panelist who began her study of Historical European Martial Arts in 2007 when she enrolled in classes at the Peninsula Fight School of MEMAG.

After diligent study and tireless practice she was made an instructor in 2009 at the Peninsula branch. In 2012 she and Cory were married and continued to teach regular classes at the Peninsula Fight School of MEMAG until early 2014, when they established the Blue Ridge Sword School in Luray, VA. In addition to teaching regular classes at MEMAG schools, Betsy has held her own seminars and taught or assisted teaching at several local, regional and national HEMA events, such as: Bonfire of the fencer, Chivalric Weekend, The HEMA Alliance Mid-Atlantic HEMA Gathering, Shortpoint, Longpoint, Octoberfecht and Fechtschule New York.

Betsy's latest research endeavors have been transcribing, translating and interpreting, Johann Georg Pascha's Jaegerstock, which she has now taught at several HEMA events.

Betsy is in charge of the creation and revision of the Staff syllabus used in all MEMAG schools.
